SEMBLANZA
Sunya Madrigal Alvarez Ugena es cineasta, realizadora y exhibidora de cine con películas proyectadas en 14 países y más 20 años en producción audiovisual.
Ganadora en MPIFF Mexico Prague International Film Festival con el trabajo de cine híbrido "Dimensión Cero"; galardonada a Mejor cortometraje experimental en Andromeda Film Festival (Turquía, 2023) y seleccionada en FICM con “Habitar"; proyecto acredor a la beca AcompañArte. Finalista en FICMA, MIC MX y SHORTS MÉXICO, seleccionada en Ambulante Pulsos Michoacán con dos trabajos colectivos y uno personal. Su documental "Otoño Verde" se ha proyectado por todo el país en MicGénero, en Cinetekton, en Festival RESISTIMOS y diversos espacios culturales. Formó parte de la 13° Generación de Directors Lab 2021 en Berlinale Talents Guadalajara. Curadora y directora de la “Muestra Divergentes” desde 2019, donde se exhiben películas con perspectiva de género y se imparten talleres formativos.
Dirige de la casa productora GRUPO RATIO FILMS desde 2015 y ha sido directora de licenciaturas en producción audiovisual y arte digital, docente y tallerista en diversas universidades de México.

ARTIST STATEMENT
"Tengo una faceta de realizadora y otra de investigadora/docente. Ambas me son apasionantes, aunque priorizo la producción. Coordino un estudio creativo de cine y de arte híbrido llamada GRUPO RATIO.
Soy licenciada en medios de comunicación y maestra en Filosofía de la Cultura con enfoque en cine contemporáneo (UMSNH, Morelia, Mich) como Becaria del Programa de Posgrado de Calidad de CONACYT y BECA MIXTA con estancia de investigación en la Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, España.
He sido becaria de diversos programas de cine, arte y teoría de cine, así como jurado en muestras y festivales internacionales de cine como el FICM (Morelia, Mich.), NodoCCS (Caracas, Venezuela), en “Michoacán Mágico”. IMCINE/Cineteca Nacional/Luna Nueva, Berlinale Talents GDL, en Directors LAB en 2021, en muestras estatales de Centro Cultural Clavijero y Secretaría de Cultura, etc. Curadora y coordinadora en "Divergentes: Arte y Cine sobre violencia de género" (2019 - 2022).
He impartido conferencias y talleres tanto teóricos como prácticos de cine, animación y arte y nuevas tecnologías para las universidades UAM, UNAM, UMSNH, ITESM, el CRAM, Centro de Documentación de las Artes del Centro Cultural Clavijero (SECUM), Contenedor de Arte, etc.
Fuí directora de la Licenciatura en Animación y Arte Digital en el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Morelia, México, así como docente de materias cine y are con nuevas tecnologías. He impartido también, clases de cine e hipermedia en la Facultad de Arte y Diseño, ENES UNAM de 2016 a 2019, para la Lic. en Arte y Producción Cinematográfica y la Lic. de Ciencias de la comunicación de la Universidad Vasco de Quiroga, en el programa de Maestría en Nuevos Medios de la Universidad de Morelia- México, etc."

SEMBLANCE
Sunya Madrigal Alvarez Ugena is a filmmaker, director, and film exhibitor with films screened in 14 countries and over 20 years in audiovisual production.
Winner at MPIFF Mexico Prague International Film Festival with the hybrid film “Dimensión Cero”; awarded Best Experimental Short Film at the Andromeda Film Festival (Turkey, 2023) and selected at FICM with “Habitar”; project awarded the AcompañArte scholarship. Finalist at FICMA, MIC MX, and SHORTS MÉXICO, selected at Ambulante Pulsos Michoacán with two collective works and one personal work. Her documentary “Otoño Verde” has been screened throughout the country at MicGénero, Cinetekton, the RESISTIMOS Festival, and various cultural spaces. She was part of the 13th Generation of Directors Lab 2021 at Berlinale Talents Guadalajara. Curator and director of the “Muestra Divergentes” since 2019, where films with a gender perspective are screened and training workshops are given.
She has been the director of the production company GRUPO RATIO FILMS since 2015 and has been the director of bachelor's degrees in audiovisual production and digital art, as well as a teacher and workshop leader at various universities in Mexico.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"I have a facet as a filmmaker and another as a researcher / teacher. Both are exciting to me, although I prioritize production. I coordinate a creative film and art studio with new media, called GRUPO RATIO.
I have a degree in media and a master in Philosophy of Culture with a focus on contemporary cinema (UMSNH, Morelia, Mich) as a CONACYT Quality Graduate Program Fellow and MIXED SCHOLARSHIP with a research stay at Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain.
I have been a fellow of various film, art and film theory programs, as well as a jury at international film festivals and exhibitions such as FICM (Morelia, Mich.), NodoCCS (Caracas, Venezuela), in “Michoacán Mágico”. IMCINE / Cineteca Nacional / Luna Nueva, Berlinale Talents GDL at Directors LAB 2021, exhibitions of the Clavijero Cultural Center and the Ministry of Culture. Curator and coordinator in "Divergentes: Art and Cinema on gender violence" (2019 and 2020).
I have given lectures and workshops both theoretical and practical on film, animation and art and new technologies for the universities UAM, UNAM, UMSNH, ITESM, CRAM, Center for the Documentation of the Arts of the Clavijero Cultural Center (SECUM), Container of Art - México, etc.
I was director of the Bachelor's Degree in Animation and Digital Art at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Morelia, Mexico, as well as a teacher of cinema and are with new technologies.
