SEMBLANZA
Sunya Madrigal Alvarez Ugena es cineasta, gestora y exhibidora de cine, con obra proyectadas en 14 países y más 20 años ejerciendo la producción audiovisual.
Ganadora en MPIFF Mexico Prague International Film Festival con el trabajo de cine híbrido "Dimensión Cero"; galardonada a Mejor cortometraje experimental en Andromeda Film Festival (Turquía, 2023) y seleccionada en FICM con “Habitar"; proyecto acredor a la beca AcompañArte. Finalista en FICMA, MIC MX y SHORTS MÉXICO, seleccionada en Ambulante con dos trabajos colectivos y uno personal. Su documental "Otoño Verde" se ha proyectado por todo el país en MicGénero, en Cinetekton, en Festival RESISTIMOS y diversos espacios culturales. Formó parte de la 13° Generación de Directors Lab 2021 en Berlinale Talents Guadalajara.
Curadora y directora de la “Muestra Divergentes” desde 2019, donde se exhiben películas con perspectiva de género y se imparten talleres formativos.
Dirige de la casa productora GRUPO RATIO FILMS desde 2015 y ha sido directora de licenciaturas en producción audiovisual y arte digital, docente y tallerista en diversas universidades de México.

ARTIST STATEMENT
"Tengo una faceta de realizadora y otra de investigadora/docente. Ambas me son apasionantes, aunque priorizo la creación Coordino un estudio creativo de cine y de arte híbrido llamada GRUPO RATIO.
Soy licenciada en medios de comunicación y maestra en Filosofía de la Cultura con enfoque en cine contemporáneo (UMSNH, Morelia, Mich) como Becaria del Programa de Posgrado de Calidad de CONACYT y BECA MIXTA con estancia de investigación en la Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, España.
He sido becaria de diversos programas de cine, arte y teoría de cine, así como jurado en muestras y festivales internacionales de cine como el FICM (Morelia, Mich.), NodoCCS (Caracas, Venezuela), en “Michoacán Mágico”. IMCINE/Cineteca Nacional/Luna Nueva, Berlinale Talents GDL, en Directors LAB en 2021, en muestras estatales de Centro Cultural Clavijero y Secretaría de Cultura, etc. Curadora y coordinadora en "Divergentes: Arte y Cine sobre violencia de género" (2019 - 2022).
He impartido conferencias y talleres tanto teóricos como prácticos de cine, animación y arte y nuevas tecnologías para las universidades UAM, UNAM, UMSNH, ITESM, el CRAM, Centro de Documentación de las Artes del Centro Cultural Clavijero (SECUM), Contenedor de Arte, etc.
Fuí directora de la Licenciatura en Animación y Arte Digital en el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Campus Morelia, México, así como directora de la Licenciatura en Producción Audiovisual en la Universidaad Internacional Jefferson. He impartido también, clases de cine e hipermedia en la Facultad de Arte y Diseño, ENES UNAM de 2016 a 2019, para la Lic. en Arte y Producción Cinematográfica y la Lic. de Ciencias de la comunicación de la Universidad Vasco de Quiroga, en el programa de Maestría en Nuevos Medios de la Universidad de Morelia, en México.
Actualmente soy docente en los programas de Maestría en área de cine en el Instituto Latinoamericano de Ciencias Cinematográficas (ILATACC) así como de materias de cine y comunicación y perspectiva de género, en la Universidad Latina de América."

SEMBLANCE
Sunya Madrigal Alvarez Ugena is a filmmaker, film manager, and exhibitor whose work has been screened in 14 countries and who has over 20 years of experience in audiovisual production.
Winner at the MPIFF Mexico Prague International Film Festival for her hybrid film “Dimensión Cero”; awarded Best Experimental Short Film at the Andromeda Film Festival (Turkey, 2023) and selected for FICM with “Habitar”; a project that received the AcompañArte grant. She was a finalist at FICMA, MIC MX, and SHORTS MÉXICO, and was selected for Ambulante with two collaborative works and one solo project. Her documentary “Otoño Verde” has been screened nationwide at MicGénero, Cinetekton, the RESISTIMOS Festival, and various cultural venues. She was part of the 13th Cohort of the Directors Lab 2021 at Berlinale Talents Guadalajara.
She has been the curator and director of the “Muestra Divergentes” since 2019, where films with a gender perspective are screened and educational workshops are held.
She has headed the production company GRUPO RATIO FILMS since 2015 and has served as program director for bachelor’s degree programs in audiovisual production and digital art, as well as a professor and workshop leader at various universities in Mexico.

ARTIST STATEMENT
"I work as both a filmmaker and a researcher/teacher. I’m passionate about both, though I prioritize creation. I coordinate a creative studio for film and hybrid art called GRUPO RATIO.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in media studies and a master’s degree in Philosophy of Culture with a focus on contemporary cinema (UMSNH, Morelia, Mich.) as a fellow of CONACYT’s Graduate Quality Program and a recipient of a MIXTA scholarship, which included a research stay at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain.
I have received fellowships from various film, art, and film theory programs, and have served on juries at international film festivals and screenings such as FICM (Morelia, Mich.), NodoCCS (Caracas, Venezuela), and “Michoacán Mágico.” IMCINE/Cineteca Nacional/Luna Nueva, Berlinale Talents GDL, Directors LAB in 2021, and state-level screenings organized by the Clavijero Cultural Center and the Ministry of Culture, among others. Curator and coordinator of “Divergentes: Art and Film on Gender-Based Violence” (2019–2022).
I have given lectures and led both theoretical and practical workshops on film, animation, art, and new technologies at UAM, UNAM, UMSNH, ITESM, CRAM, the Arts Documentation Center at the Clavijero Cultural Center (SECUM), Contenedor de Arte, and others.
I served as director of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Animation and Digital Art at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), Morelia Campus, Mexico, as well as director of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Audiovisual Production at Jefferson International University. I have also taught courses on film and hypermedia at the School of Art and Design, ENES UNAM, from 2016 to 2019, for the Bachelor’s degree in Art and Film Production and the Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences at Vasco de Quiroga University, as well as in the Master’s program in New Media at the University of Morelia in Mexico.
I currently teach in the Master’s programs in film at the Latin American Institute of Cinematographic Sciences (ILATACC), as well as courses on film, communication, and gender studies at the Universidad Latina de América."
